Todd Gloria’s failed approach
Under Todd Gloria’s failed leadership, homelessness has gotten much worse. The number of homeless people has increased 45%. Chronic homelessness has also risen each year. Yet the annual spending has been increased by 8 times!
The mayor failed to plan ahead, so the city isn’t prepared for the loss of 700 shelter beds in 2024.
The Safe Sleeping sites were poorly planned and are improperly managed, leading to the recent problems with flooding, spoiled food, and rodents.
The mayor’s current “solution” is a mega-shelter on Kettner Blvd, intended to hold up to 1000 people, in a space better suited to about 300. This has been called the “Billion Dollar Shelter” after calculating the cost over 30 years.
The mayor routinely ignores community leaders and local businesses, instead of enlisting their involvement.
San Diego can do better, by moving away from the failed policies of Todd Gloria.
